I read the Feb. 8 article regarding the clear-cutting near Tommy Davis’ home. I greatly sympathize with him, but I also appreciate that Dr. Martin can do with his land as he wishes.

My consternation comes from the information that federal funding is possibly going to “help” pay for the burn and reseeding of the longleaf pines. Dr. Martin is a wealthy man who might be using the system to increase that wealth even more. Why is the taxpayer supporting people of means who can afford to do burns and reseeding on their own?
