Yes, Fifth Avenue and U.S. 15-501 have something in common, so relax and enjoy.
Limerick Laureate Ted Atwood composed the following:
Making plans for the Easter parade
Organizers should plan for first aid
Now we’re growing less agile
Our bones are more fragile
And potholes are hard to evade.
Making plans for the Easter parade
My outfit is mostly homemade
But — like Elvis — I’ve a treat —
Just gaze at these feet
Blue shoes that are made of suede.
Making plans for the Easter parade
Some options need to be made
Is it comfort or style?
You may ponder a while...
But decisions will have to be made.
L.L. Thompson wrote these little ditties:
Making plans for the Easter parade
Requires decisions carefully made
This year will blue jeans
Be okay for our teens
Or must frizzy coifs be displayed?
Making plans for the Easter parade
Takes at least a full decade
To test our Eau D-Amour
and Dior’s J’Adore
Also requires decisions carefully made.
Making plans for the Easter parade
Is a job I’d like to evade
With three little girls
Needing lipstick and curls...
It’s too much for me, I’m afraid.
Making plans for the Easter parade
Is a challenge that can’t be delayed
Will it be Pinehurst No. 2
Or Fifth Avenue...
Or aspirin and hot lemonade?
We welcome aboard a new poetic colleague, Grace Parker of Pinehurst, who wrote:
Making plans for the Easter parade
I was more than a little dismayed
When I discovered last night
That my dress was too tight
And too much of myself was displayed.
Our March limerick requires a designated first line of “There’s a port-sided golfer out there.” (Okay, I admit it, I’m a leftie, too.)
Leftie Phil Mickelson will be with us for the U.S. Open in June, and we hope he will bring his wee ladies with him to Pinehurst. His little girls nearly stole the show on television a few weeks ago.
Mail March limericks to The Pilot, PO Box 58, Southern Pines, NC 28388. The deadline is March 31.
Lamont “Tommy” Thompson is a limerick lover who lives at Belle Meade.
