SCC’s Marion Earns Rating From IAAP

The International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) has notified Debra Marion of Carthage that she has earned the certified administrative professional (CAP) rating.

This advanced professional designation requires the individual to satisfy education and experience requirements, and pass a comprehensive four-part examination covering finance and business law, office systems and administration, management, and organizational planning.

Marion has been an administrative professional for 30 years and a member of the Sandhills Chapter of IAAP for 14 years, serving as secretary, vice president and president. She has been employed at Sandhills Community College since 1978 and is currently the administrative assistant to the vice president for business and administrative services.

She is married to William Marion and has three children and three grandchildren. She is the daughter of Jack Crowl and the late Betty Jean Crowl of Aberdeen.

The Institute for Certification, a department of IAAP, administers the Certified Administrative Professional program. Approximately 200 examination centers offer the exam worldwide the first Friday and Saturday of May and November.

Since its inception in May 2001, nearly 1,400 individuals have achieved the coveted CAP rating. Benefits of certification include increased knowledge; greater respect from employers and peers; the possibility of college credit; and confidence to assume greater responsibilities.

IAAP, the leading association for administrative support staff, also administers the Certified Professional Secretary program. More than 60,000 individuals hold the CPS rating. Both CAP and CPS holders are invited to attend the annual Certification Seminar, which further enhances professional development.
