Four Teams in State Basketball Playoffs

BY HUNTER CHASE: Sports Editor

Although the seeds for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state basketball tournaments were not finalized by early Sunday, four area high school teams will definitely be playing.

It’s just a question of who they will be playing. The games are scheduled, but, because of possible upsets in conference tournaments, the opponents could change.

But as it stands right now, the North Moore girls and Union Pines girls will be opening play tonight, while the North Moore boys and Union Pines boys will be playing on Tuesday evening. None of the four teams will have home games regardless of who they play.

To make sure about the opponent and location of the game it is probably advisable to call the schools for confirmation.

The Mustang girls (15-10), seeded fourth out of the Yadkin Valley Conference, are scheduled to play Maiden in an away game with a 7 p.m. start tonight. The North Moore boys, the sixth-seed from the conference, will take to the road to play East Surry on Tuesday (7 p.m.). Those games are first-round contests in the 1-A state tournament.

Both Union Pines teams finished the regular season with fourth-place seeds out of the Tri-County Conference. They will have road games in the first round of the 3-A state playoffs.

The girls (15-10) will play Piedmont, the third seed out of the South Piedmont Conference, at Piedmont tonight at 7 p.m. The boys (11-15) are scheduled to play Parkland on Tuesday at Parkland beginning at 7 p.m.
