Sunday, Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. the Layman’s banquet will be held in Sanford at the fairgrounds. This is sponsored by the Sanford district.

A Missionary Outreach program is scheduled for the fourth Sunday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at Green Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Cameron on County Line Road. The Rev. Carolyn Radcliff is host pastor.

Last Saturday, Feb. 9, a special organization meeting was held at the Community Center. They elected the board of directors for the next two years and they were as follows: the Rev. Clinton Chaney, Wilbert Brown, Nathin Taylor, Dean Hammond, Betty Washington, Louise Jones, Inez Morris and Lorine McCants. These are the nine people that will govern the center for the next two years. Your presence is very much needed at the next regular meeting which will be held on March 9. We need committees to serve with the board.

Our community was saddened to learn on last Friday of the passing of Layfett Stubbs. Funeral services were to be held Tuesday in Charlotte with burial in Aberdeen on Wednesday.

Bell Smith is in the hospital at FirstHealth Moore Regional.

Diana Brown, Nezzie Haith, Betty McGhee, Ola Chavis, Celeste Chambers, Corenna Nealy, Therlo McNeill, all are among the homebound.

Jenny L. Lee, Connie L. Covington, Liza Jane Brown, Jim Smith, Eugene McRae, Alton (Nutt) Smith, all are in nursing homes.

Birthday wishes go out this week to Marie Berry, Feb. 13; Ruth France, Feb. 17; Benny Shaw, Feb. 18.

The Drama Team and the Drill Team will meet Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter.

Koreon Gillespie celebrated another birthday.

The Couple’s Fellowship will start at 7 p.m. at St. Peters on Friday, Feb. 15.

The play “What a Family” will be put on at St. Ruth on Saturday night at 7 p.m. Sharonda Wilson is the author of the play.

Stacy Faulk (Williams) is home from Texas visiting her family.

The YPHA took a trip to Fayetteville on Saturday.

The Rev. Larry Alford celebrated his pastoral anniversary on Sunday in Raeford.

Yosheila and John McGhee celebrated their second wedding anniversary.

St. Peter will still be teaching on finance in their Thursday night Bible Study.

Bea and Iris Little attended the Martin Luther King Steering Committee breakfast meeting on Thursday morning at Shoney’s.

A Valentine party is planned for Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Beaver Dam Center N. of Hoffman.

Myra and husband of Durham visited with her father and other relatives. Her aunt Rebecca is at Carolina Central Nursing Home in Laurinburg. Grace Whiteside of Pinehurst visited Bea Little on Saturday.

Larry King and family, Billie Miller, Brenda Hickman and Jimmy Saddler were supper guests of Mrs. Jacob King on Monday.

We were sorry to hear of the death of a neighbor, Don Thomas. He was well liked by all in the neighborhood. We extend our sympathy to all the family.

Granville King visited his mother Mrs. Jacob King on Sunday.

Danny and Merideth McDiarmand from Apex came down to get their daughter Hannah. She spent the week with her grandparents Ray and Jean Millikan.

On Saturday, Jewell Vest and Mrs. Jacob King shopped in Southern Pines and had lunch at the Golden Coral.

Twelve members of the Class of 1950 from West End school had dinner together on Sunday evening.

Laurin Palmerton and daughters Bethany and Elise of Winston-Salem spent the weekend with her parents Bill and Clara Bailey.

Linda Perkins from the Culdee Church family visited Laland Frye and Bertie Martignetti on Wednesday.

Larry king visited his mother Mrs. Jacob King on Thursday and did some work for her.

Fonnie Harris and Blanche Parker, parents of Ray and Jean Millikan are doing very well. They are at Manor Care.

Joyce Haywood spent Sunday afternoon with her mother Laland Frye.

Nancy Howle visited her mother Bertie Martignetti on Sunday.

John and Irene got a phone call from their son, Paul over the weekend. They are planning to visit and take him out to eat.

Sunday afternoon after church, John, Irene and Jonathan ate out at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Southern Pines.

Jonathan is really having fun riding the scooter his grandaddy bought.

Irene Ray called the members of their church who were out sick with the flu. Several were out.

Flora Ray is hoping things work out on her job so that she can get back in church.
