Quilters Guild Distributes Lap Quilts to Local Agencies

During the past year, members of the Sandhills Quilters Guild have made and distributed 108 lap quilts and children’s quilts to Friend to Friend, the Sandhills Children’s Center and area nursing homes. Each member of the guild is asked to make two “service quilts” a year.

At the monthly meetings of the guild, it is always interesting to see the designs, color combinations and techniques used to make these quilts.

Members of the quilting guild have been giving quilts since the early 1980s with the first quilts going to the Sandhills Children’s Center. Since that time as the guild has grown, other agencies have received the quilts.

The Sandhills Quilters Guild is a very energetic guild of over 80 members and meets on the third Tuesday of each month at Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church on 330 South May St. in Southern Pines. Anyone who has an interest in quilting is welcome to attend. The programs and workshops offer a wide variety of subjects and members of the guild are always willing to help if you have quilting questions.
