Addor

The first regular check up meeting is scheduled for this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 8 and 9, at Norrington A.M.E. Zion Church Lillington on Highway 27 North. The Rev. Michael S. Bell is host pastor. The Rev. George E. Battle Jr. presiding Bishop is in charge.

The 2002 Election of the board of directors and committees for the Addor Community Center organization is Saturday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. at Addor Community Center, 1222 South Currant St. Ext. You are a part of this community and you are welcome to come and vote who you would like for your board of directors for the next two years.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Herbert Hampton of Aberdeen on Jan. 30. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feb. 3 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Jimmy L. Gilchrist, pastor, gave the eulogy. Several friends from the Addor community attended the services. Herbert worked for Pinebluff Sanitarium for many years under the late Dr. Kemp.

Birthday wishes go out this week to Martha Harris, Feb. 6; Terrell Hart, Feb. 9.

Diana Brown, Nezzie Haith, Betty McGhee, Ola Chavis, Bell Smith, Celeste Chambers, Corenna Nealy, Therlo McNeill, all are among the homebound.

Jenny L. Lee, Connie L. Covington. Liza Jane Brown, Jim Smith, Eugene McRae, Alton (Nutt) Smith all are in nursing homes.

Elizabeth Alston had a surprise birthday party on Sunday after church.

St. Ruth will be putting on the play “What a family” on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.

Mahalia Williams will be doing her introductory message on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. at Greater St. Mark in Wadesboro.

St. Peter will be having a finance course for Bible Study on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome to come out to get a better understanding of your finances.

St. Peters will be having a couples fellowship on Friday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Computer Class will be held at Beaver Dam Community Center, Feb. 4 through March and April 29. Please note your dates and time. There are four groups, A group, B group, C group and D group.

Iris Little and Bea, Lula Smith and daughter, Barbara Gilmore, Billie Swann, attended the homegoing services for Maxie James Little on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at Mt. Zion United Church of Christ in Rockingham.

Wilson Hart and Bea attended the homegoing services for Herbert Hampton on Sunday in Aberdeen at St. John Missionary Baptist Church.

Remona Hart, Harold and Margaret Hart of Madison, Flossie Hagins and Wilson Hart were Sunday dinner guests at Bea’s.

Sick and shut-ins are Juanita Gilmore, Eddie White, Joe Jasper, Raymond McRae Sr., Frank Smith, Mary McKeithan, Ernest Collin, Wilson Hart, Clara Wilkerson.

On Monday, Larry King and Kelly visited Mrs. Jacob King.

We were sorry that Dan Thomas had to return to the hospital on Sunday.

Hannah McDearmid of Apex is spending the week with her grandparents Ray and Jean Millikan.

Joyce Haywood visited Laland Frye on Sunday afternoon.

Dana King and daughter, Camry of Robbins visited with Mrs. Jacob King on Wednesday.

A good crowd attended church at Bethlehem church on Sunday.

Nancy Howle visited Bertie Martignetti on Sunday.

Mark Black, son of Lacy and Elsie Black drove them there to Texas to see their daughter Faye and grandson and family.

Howard Harris is in the hospital. He has to have a gall bladder operation.

Beverly Furr visited Melba Vest on Sunday afternoon.

Everette and Joyce Haywood went to Greensboro on Thursday to visit Allen and Maureen Haywood. Allen had to have surgery.

Margaret Ludwig visited Laland Frye on Saturday afternoon.

On Tuesday Chris King visited and had lunch with his grandmother Mrs. Jacob King.

Dot McKenzie is on the sick list.

A good crowd enjoyed a lunch together at the Fairview Church on Sunday after morning service.

Sympathy is extended to the Causey family on the death of one Edwin Causey who passed away last week.

Sympathy is extended to the Wetstien and Athans families. Mrs. Athans mother passed away in Salt Lake City, Utah last week.

Joan Hennings underwent surgery at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital last week, but is home improving.

Larry Rice is a patient in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Ada Bullins underwent surgery at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, but has been transferred to St. Joseph to take therapy.

Beulah Cameron and daughter Patricia went on a cruise for a few days.

Cypress Church session will meet at 6 p.m. at the church on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Cleta Athans and Mary Cohen had dinner in Fayetteville on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Seagroves had their family get together on “Ground Hogs Day.” Mr. and Mrs. Max Seagroves visited them.

They are from Hampton, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Bunch Hair of Fayetteville also visited them.

Birthday wishes are extended to Cameron Sharp, Sonny Wooten, Jeanette Brown, Bryan Banks, Doug Roach, Linda Gillenwater, Bobby McCoy, Jennifer Schmittle and Ronnie Brown.

Shawtown

The exercise program at Body of Christ in Sanford has started off really well. The only cost is $1 a week and that will go to the person who loses the most for that month.

We weigh in and measure monthly. We have lots of fun exercising.

We will also have lessons on “how to eat” right. Anyone can join. We exercise on Mondays at 6 p.m.

Veronica, Terria and Dakeshia Lester visited John and Irene Ray Saturday night. They had fun with Jonathan.

A birthday party was given for Russell Jackson and Jonathan was invited Sunday afternoon.

Black History Month is being celebrated at Body of Christ Ministries. For our celebration Sunday, our youth choir, “The Heavenly Voices,” sang some old slavery spirituals.

At our women’s meeting we started presenting birthday gifts to each woman 21 and over. The presentation takes place on the last month in which her birthday comes. January birthday honored was Ada Elliott.

Sick are Walter W.J. Brower in Carthage, Alsae McKinnon, Donald McKenzie, Minnie Armstrong and many others.

Please keep Sue Lee Johnson in your prayers as well as the troops in the war.
