Mt. Airy Eliminates ’Stangs from Playoffs

It was a long trip to Mount Airy for the North Moore High School boys’ basketball team, and an even longer trip home on Friday, as the Mustangs were eliminated in the second round of the state playoffs by Mount Airy High School, 92-56.
The game was originally scheduled to be played Thursday, but because of bad weather was rescheduled for Friday.
Mount Airy jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, 23-12, and held a commanding 55-19 lead at the half.
North Moore improved in the second half, keeping pace with Mount Airy, but they were unable to narrow the margin, and Mount Airy won the decisive victory.
Mount Airy was scheduled to play Burlington Cummings at Southwest Randolph on Saturday.
Richard Joyce had 21 points and David Whittaker added 16 for Mount Airy. Antwain McCrimmon led the Mustangs with 21 points, and Brandon Dowd added 16 for North Moore.
The Mustangs ended the season with an 11-16 record. They reached the playoffs as the fourth-ranked team out of the Central Tar Heel 1-A Conference.
