The rezoning of the proposed Leith Autopark was not only illegal and unjustified, but just stupid. This property has been zoned commercial for over 20 years by the request of the original developer, and Leith received confirmation in writing that this site allowed auto dealerships before closing on the property.

To expect that a company would walk away from a $1.5 million investment without a legal fight is totally irresponsible. Now it will be left up to the taxpayers of Southern Pines to foot the bill and sends the wrong message to other business that would like to locate here.

I hope the members of our Town Council will reconsider and settle before this suit ends up costing the taxpayers and possibly you personally.
