The Mustangs completed the fall season with an 11-7-2 record for their fifth winning mark in the seven years North Moore has had a soccer program.
It was also the fifth straight year that they made the 1A state playoffs and the fifth year in a row of obtaining at least 11 wins in a season.
Making the All-Yadkin Valley Conference team were Raul Chavez, Edwin De La Cruz, Eric Diaz and George Domingo.
Those same players were also selected for the All-Region 8 squad. Shamberger earned the region coaching honor for the second year in a row.
This season ended in a 4-2 first round state playoff loss to Jordan-Matthews. The leading goal scorer on this year’s balanced squad was Chavez, a junior, with 15. He was followed by Eric Diaz with 13, Jesus Raya with 12 and De La Cruz with 11. De La Cruz was the assist leader with 10. Domingo was a four-year starter as a defender.
The Mustangs competed in a league that has produced the last two 1A state champions in Jordan-Matthews (2004) and Thomasville (2005).
They were listed in the North Carolina Soccer Coaches’ Association weekly poll all season, spending three weeks in the top spot.
Their final ranking was seventh.
Two of the Mustang players were honored for their off-the-field conduct. Omar Gonzalez and Manuel Mendoza received Students of the Month awards at North Moore for September and October.
