Having spoken at the recent NCGOP Executive Committee Meeting in favor of the resolution against Richard Morgan, I can tell you that my opinion is based on an objective viewpoint of the facts.
When the vast majority of Republicans statewide (as represented by the county parties throughout the state) and the majority of Republican legislators in the state House speak out against Morgan, it is a strong signal that a change needs to be made.
Since the beginning of the so-called “shared power” arrangement in the state House headed by Morgan and Speaker Jim Black, the taxpayers of North Carolina have been the unfortunate recipients of increased taxes, corporate deals giving away millions of dollars while bringing few jobs.
Despite the fact that more citizens of North Carolina voted for Republicans in the last two election cycles, Republicans have not held the majority in the state House because of the misguided efforts of Richard Morgan and his close associates. While Morgan may have the word “Republican” listed as his party affiliation, his behavior in the General Assembly has been far short of conservative or moderate.
It is only due to the extreme nature of Morgan’s actions over the past few years that the vast majority of members of the NCGOP Executive Committee felt it absolutely necessary to pass such a unique resolution against Richard Morgan.
While “a House divided cannot stand,” it’s far more important to stand for something (low taxes, less spending, moral and compassionate values) than nothing.
