Melissa Powers was named the conference player of the year, while Alana Pennington was selected the conference’s coach of the year.
The Mustang squad finished tied for first place in the conference regular season with West Davidson. North Moore handed West Davidson its first conference loss in seven years. West Davidson returned the favor later in the season as both teams finished the regular season with one conference loss.
Joining Powers on the all-conference team were fellow Mustangs Jessica McLeod, Ashley Alexander and Kyla Stone. Katie Ritter earned honorable mention recognition.
The Mustangs placed four players on the all-conference football team. Frank Smith made the team as an offensive lineman, while Mike Person was chosen as a wide receiver. On the defensive side of the ball, Cam Thomas was selected as an lineman, while Willis Barrett made the squad as a defensive back.
The Mustangs went 6-5 in the regular season, finishing with a 6-6 record after losing in the first round of the state playoffs. Conference member Thomas-ville won the state I-AA title and placed six players on the 30-member squad. Albemarle’s Marcus Davis was the player of the year, while Albemarle’s Baxter Morris earned coach of the year honors.
In soccer, the Mustangs had three players on the 25-member team. Named to the honor squad were Jordan Phillips, Nolberto Hernandez and George Domingo. Esteban Pulido was an honorable mention selection. The Mustangs made it to the third round of the state playoffs, including an upset of the state’s top-ranked team, Polk County, in the first round.
In cross country, the Mustangs were represented by Brandon Phillips on the boys’ honor squad and Claire Monroe on the girls’ team. In the girls’ tennis, Caitlin Forrest was the lone Mustang representative on the all-conference squad.
