Patriot Junior Varsity Sweeps Scotland in League Basketball

The Pinecrest junior varsity boys basketball team remained undefeated with a hard-fought battle over Scotland in Laurinburg on Friday night. It was the Mid-Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.

After taking an early lead, the Patriots found themselves down by eight points early in the second quarter. Relying on full-court pressure and half-court traps the Green and Gold took a 30-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. More of the same intensity in the second half widened the gap until the final score of 67-49.

Seth Maness, Ryan Sprouse, Jeremy Hargrove and Sean Stout each had double-digit points for the Patriots and Hargrove added 12 rebounds and five steals.

The Pinecrest junior varsity girls also grabbed a win with a 54-34 victory over Scotland County in Friday’s opener.

The Patriots were led by Latonya Cain with 19 points. She was backed by Brittany Williams with 11 and Shamika Paige with 10.

The Patriots will travel to Hoke County on Friday.
