The training gives participants the opportunity to sharpen their teaching skills to serve younger Girl Scouts in a variety of areas. Saturday’s training focused on how to adapt learning experiences to varying age levels in the Girl Scout program in the specialty areas of arts and crafts, songs, and ceremonies.
In the arts and crafts specialty area, Girl Scouts discover that projects are more than busywork — they should have meaning and purpose. By exploring different arts and crafts ideas, participants learn how to effectively teach a specific project to a group of younger girls. The songs specialization enables girls to teach or lead a song. Participants in the ceremonies specialty area learn to successfully plan a ceremony and discover the meaning behind the ceremony. After this training, Girl Scouts can help younger girls carry on the tradition of ceremonies within Girl Scouting.
Program Aide Specialty Training is available to Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts who have completed Program Aide Core Training.
The training allows Girl Scouts to acquire and utilize leadership skills, develop communication and teaching skills, and build social skills that will remain with participants all their lives.
