The tournament attracted 88 players, in teams of four, with door prizes donated by area merchants. Southern Pines Equine Associates and Southern Pines Feed provided the par-3 hole in one jackpots. Parker Minchin won the putting contest to earn an opportunity to putt again for a $2500 jackpot. None of the jackpots were claimed, but the members of the top-three winning teams received cash prizes.
Fred Whaley and G-3 Café sponsored the awards banquet. Tournament proceeds will benefit the Elks Kids Camp and Hoof and Hand. Louise Gilchrist was honored with the Horseman’s Open award for her continued support of the tournament over the years.
Tournament organizer Anne Thompson said she is passing the reins over to Hoof and Hand for 2004.
“It’s a non-profit organization that provides retired horses for at risk kids to care for,” Thompson said. “They are taking over tournament organization next year.”
