Allen Scott Jordan, 44, drowned in the pond behind his Eagle Springs home, according to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.
Jordan’s family owns and operates Jordan’s BBQ in West End. He graduated from Pinecrest High School. He was on the Patriots’ 1979 high school state championship baseball team. In addition to baseball, he lettered in football at Pinecrest.
In college, he played baseball for the University of North Alabama and Southeastern Junior College. He also played American Legion Ball. He enjoyed hunting.
“He was one of the finest young men you’ll ever meet,” said Lamar Pusser, an employee at Jordan’s BBQ.
The Sheriff’s Office received a preliminary autopsy report that said Jordan had drowned.
The toxicology report will take some more time, but evidence suggests that Jordan was drinking, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Jordan’s fiancee, Robin D. McKenzie, called to report the drowning, the Sheriff’s Office said.
She told deputies that he had gone golfing with friends about 3 p.m. Friday. At 9:30 p.m., she entered the house and could tell that he’d been drinking because there were open beer bottles in the house, Chief Deputy Neil Godfrey said.
McKenzie spotted Jordan’s shoes at the end of the pier, but was afraid to look in the water, Godfrey said.
She called her sister-in-law, Terry Jordan, and they discovered his body in about four feet of water at about 10:30 p.m., Godfrey said.
The funeral services took place Tuesday.
His parents, Floyd and Frances Jordan, brother Ted Jordan and fiancee survive him.
