Greensboro Hosts Women’s Show Event

CONTRIBUTED

The Southern Women’s Show returns to the Triad on Sept. 10-12 at the Greensboro Coliseum.

A dazzling, interactive hands-on event, the Southern Women’s Show encourages women to choose their fun, whether they are interested in cooking demonstrations, makeovers, fashion shows or shopping. There are also dozens of workshops as well as opportunities for one-on-one advice from professionals in health, fitness, financial planning and other areas of interest. Exhibitors will offer a variety of products, many of which have never before been available.

“We’re known as the best gathering place for women,” said Tish Atkins, the show’s manager, “because we have the things women love. There’s everything from jewelry and art to workshops and entertainment. It’s just a matter of finding your favorite things.”

Some women come for pampering, such as haircuts, makeovers and massages, explained Atkins. Other women enjoy the mini-classes, such as belly dancing or financial planning. “Then, there are the women who don’t miss the cooking demonstrations – no matter what,” she said with a laugh. “They pick up recipes, sample the food, and learn the latest cooking techniques. Whatever they choose, though, we make sure our guests have a great time.”

Atkins said the only way to understand the many exciting features of the show is simply to attend. Since this is just the second year in Greensboro, many people are curious about what to expect at the Southern Women’s Show.

“There is so much going on that it’s impossible to describe,” said Atkins. “It’s one of those things you just have to experience. Then, once you do, you’ll know why women come back every single year. It really is a weekend of fun for women.”

Highlights of this year’s show include:

n Laughter lessons: Meet Marilyn Sprague-Smith, award-winning consultant, author and certified laughter leader. Sprague-Smith’s workshop, “Take Time for Laughter,” invigorates, energizes and gives guests real laughter therapy. Her aim? “Get them out of their seats and on their feet!” She appears on stage daily.

n Haircuts by one of the country’s best stylists. Don Stacy, internationally known platform artist and color specialist, will evaluate and cut guests’ hair at the show. Stacy’s salon, DS Parada, was named “Best Salon in the South” by Harper’s Bazaar and Elle magazines.

n Fashion shows featuring the latest styles. The hottest new fashions take center stage on models from Belk, Mack & Mack, Dress Barn and Talbots. Guests will get a sneak peek at the most current looks for the season. Experts will also be on hand to discuss texture, color and accessorizing.

n Real cooking ideas for real people. Paul Penney, personal chef and member of USPCA, will demonstrate how to get that ever-important meal – dinner – on the table, night after night. Penney, also known as “the Aussie in the kitchen,” shares funny experiences and helpful advice during his entertaining demonstrations. Guests will be among the first in the country to sample Pillsbury’s newest microwave biscuits.

n The super hero of fitness motivation. Aerobo Cop, the fitness super hero, will get guests excited about fitness with his inspiring stories. In an effort to fight childhood obesity, Aerobo Cop (former police officer Mitchell Smith) teaches health in a unique way.

n Hands-on pampering. From massages to makeovers, guests are invited to enjoy some much-deserved relaxation and pampering. Makeup artists from Bobbi Brown and Belk will teach women how to find and use cosmetics that best enhance their beauty.
