Miss Teen Pageant Is Saturday

The Miss Teen Moore County Pageant will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Robert E. Lee Auditorium on the campus of Pinecrest High School. Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

This year’s master of ceremonies is Charly Lowry of Pembroke. Lowry was in the top 30 finalists on “American Idol.” She is a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and is the daughter of Delores Lowry, an employee at UNC Pembroke. She is a former Miss Junior Lumbee.

There will be special entertainment by the Pinecrest High School Dance Team.

This year’s contestants include:

Laura Puleo, 14, is a daughter of Drs. Joel and Ellen Puleo of Pinehurst. She will perform in dance during the talent competition. She is sponsored by the Pinehurst Women’s Clinic.

Leigh Ann Wilson, 16, is a daughter of Yale and Faith Mather of Aberdeen. Wilson will sing as she competes in the talent phase of the pageant. Her sponsor is JG Financial in Aberdeen.

Sixteen-year-old Brittani Pincock is a daughter of Ferran and Lori Pincock of West End. She will also sing during talent competition. Sponsors include Lionel A. Kuhn, DDS, Jennifer S. Massey, DDS. Olmsted Cleaners and Tax-Deferred Retirement Planners.

Lanae Simpson is the daughter of Wayne and Kay Simpson of Pinehurst. The 14-year-old will sing as a portion of the talent competition. Her sponsors include Bernadette’s Sewing Center, the Arts Council of Moore County, Dr. Rick Saunders and Wachovia Bank.

Elizabeth Schilling will perform on the piano for her talent presentation. The 14-year-old is the daughter of Justin and Kathy Schilling of Vass. She is sponsored by family and friends.

Anna Troublefield, 13, is the daughter of Jimmy and Cindy Troublefield of West End. She will sing during the talent phase of the competition. Her sponsor is My Favorite Things.

Fifteen-year-old Amber White will perform on the piano during the talent competition. She is the daughter of Buster and Kerry Fipps of Carthage. She is sponsored by Four Seasons Heating and Air.

Amanda Evans is the 16-year-old daughter of Clayton and Lisa Evans of Cameron. She will play the flute during the talent competition. She is sponsored by Bob’s Pizza and Rob’s Auto Parts

Abigail Lane Ovbey, 13, is the daughter of Tom Ovbey and Trice Sanders of West End. She will dance during the talent competition. Her sponsor is SH&S Kleaning.

According to a spokesman, the winner will receive a $500 scholarship along with a photo allowance and gift certificates from various local vendors. First and second runners-up will receive savings bonds and gift certificates.

Awards will also be given for Miss Congeniality, highest ticket sales, most photogenic. The Juanita K. Baker Memorial Award is given to the young lady who sells the most program ads.

Each girl must write an essay in answer to the question, “If you could live in a decade in the 1900s prior to your birth, which would it be and why.” These essays are judged and the winner is given the “Spirit Award.”
