Eventing Champs Update

Over 350 entries have been logged in and more are expected for the inaugural American Eventing Championships and Festival of Eventing here Sept. 16-19 at the Carolina Horse Park.

The Park is being groomed and new courses will be unveiled for the event, designed by John Williams and constructed by Eric Bull.

“The courses can be walked anytime,” said event organizer Lefreda Williams. “Maybe people would like to see how these jumps are built.”

Many special activities and features are planned for this event, including pony rides for kids and many vendors.

One-day VIP tickets can still be purchased for $100, which includes preferred parking and entry to the members’ tent with food and drink.

Dressage kings Jim Koford and John Zopatti are planning to demonstrate a pas de deux to music at noon Thursday and Friday during the dressage phase of the competition.

The $50,000 in prize money, divided between the five levels, is sponsored by Bit ‘O Britain, Smartpak, Amerigo, Stackhouse Saddlery, Coverall and Maui Jim. The event is a co-production of the Carolina Horse Park and the U.S. Eventing Association.

The Carolina Horse Park is located on the corner of Montrose and Calloway Roads, between Southern Pines and Raeford just off N.C. 211. For more information, to Web site www.carolinahorsepark.com or call 246-9808.
