Carthage Lions
The Carthage Lions Club will meet on Thursday, Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Moore County Library.
Deputy Henry Shamburger, K-9 handler and trainer for the Moore County Sheriff’s Department, will be the guest speaker. His dog, Anusca, will accompany him and participate in the program.
Plans will be finalized for the charter ceremony scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 at Westside Community Center in Seven Lakes. Carthage Mayor Larry Caddell has issued a resolution proclaiming that day as Carthage Lions Club Day.
The Sandhills Lions Club will host the event. Past District Governor Brad Logsdon will be the master of ceremonie. PDG Harry Wicker will lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Caddell will give a welcoming speech.
The keynote speaker is Sid Scruggs III, past international director. Alan King, district governor 31-F will present the charter and code of ethics. Others on the program are Bob Goodman, past president of the Sandhills Lions, Bob Stephan and Rufe Livingston, co-sponsors of the Carthage Lions and PDG Wood Huggins, district chaplain.
Browns Backers
The Cleveland Browns Backers of the Sandhills, a club made up of loyal Cleveland Browns football fans living in the Sandhills area, meet every time the Browns play a game.
This is a worldwide organization of over 265 clubs dedicated to cheering and showing support for its beloved Cleveland Browns. The local chapter meets at Brook’s Club, 155 N.E. Broad Street in Southern Pines. The club will provide hot dogs with a variety of toppings and plenty of beverages. President John Marriott conducts a raffle at half-time, which includes all members, offering various logo clothing, caps and other collectable items.

IAAP
The Sandhills Chapter of IAAP (International Association of Administrative Professionals) will meet on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 6 p.m. in the Board Room of Sandhills Community College. “Evolution of a Power Point Presentation” will be the program given by Sheila Bradley, a member and recent graduate of Sandhills Community College.

The Newcomers of Pinehurst is an organization founded in 1984 to bring new residents of Pinehurst together for social activities. Newcomers has many interesting groups which encourage members to learn about their community, its lifestyle, cultures and activities.
