Forum President Walter McGowan said that the first event of the season is scheduled for Oct. 14 and features the Carolina Brass. This accomplished and entertaining instrumental ensemble presents a repertoire of musical styles that span the gamut from Medieval to Dixie Land and Renaissance to Big Band.
Vocalist Adam James will perform on Nov. 11 in “A Toast to Ol’ Blue Eyes.” Chosen by Tina Sinatra to portray her famous father in a musical tribute following his death, this Toronto native soon found himself in demand around the world as a Frank Sinatra-style crooner.
The Ink Spots will light up the evening on Dec. 2. They are one of the most popular and enduring recording groups in American music history with more than 86 chart-ranking hits and induction honors into both the Grammy and Rock & Roll Halls of Fame. The audience can expect to hear such songs as “I’ll Never Smile Again” and “It’s a Sin to Tell a Lie,” as well as some holiday gems interspersed in the program.
On Jan. 20, Second City Comedy Company will present their outrageous, sometimes politically incorrect and always “cutting edge” repertoire of sketches and jokes in this special appearance during their 45th anniversary tour.
Forum will welcome vocalist and songwriter Caroline Drury on Feb. 24. She is being heralded as the next Diana Krall or Nora Jones.
North Carolina’s own North State Chorale will perform on March 31. This 36-voice men’s chorus appears annually at Biltmore Estate and has been invited to sing at the White House this year.
Forum members must present membership cards upon arrival each evening, and only out of town guests are permitted. Those wishing more information to join should call Forum Membership Chairman Mary Ann McGowan at 693-1033.
