Baseball Coach Defended

I would like to give my full support to Union Pines head baseball coach Carl Boykin.

This past year was Carl’s first year as Vikings head coach, and I don’t know how he made it through the season. He put up with more “crap” than anyone should have to put up with. He put up with people trying to get him fired, people calling his house threatening him and, worst of all, he put up with an athletic director and principal who wouldn’t stand behind him.

How can you let a parent threaten your coach, his job, and do nothing? If I’m the athletic director or principal, that parent and his child are done with the baseball program right then, no questions. There was nothing ever done about this matter and that’s very sad.

Everybody in this entire community knows the two people who think they run the show at Union Pines, and they are sick of it. Carl is probably the best baseball coach Union Pines has ever had, and he will turn the program around. If you don’t think he’ll turn that program around, ask people, go look at the baseball field and last, but not least, ask him.

Principal Robin Lea, you are the only one who can let Carl do the job he was hired to do. Let him run his baseball program his way, not the way a couple of “daddies” want it.

Carl, I’m pulling for you and I’m not alone. The entire community is pulling for you and what you’re trying to do. Don’t let a couple of people run you off, because this community is backing you.
