Choral Society Gears Up

Moore County Choral Society marks the beginning of its new season with the first rehearsal on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church, 330 S. May St. in Southern Pines, is the site of the choral group’s rehearsals held every Tuesday evening. Registration for all current members as well as new members will start at 6:30 p.m. with rehearsal beginning at 7:30 and ending at 9:30 p.m.

Anne Dorsey returns as director and conductor along with Marijo Brown as accompanist.

“We are so fortunate in Moore County to have such accomplished and multi-talented people to bring wonderful music for the enjoyment of both audiences and performers,” said a spokesman.

The holiday concert will be held at Owen Auditorium at Sandhills Community College on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6 and 7.

This program will include traditional favorites such as “Sleigh Ride,” “White Christmas” and “Winter Wonderland,” as well as spirituals and familiar carols from around the world.

A set of carols arranged by Stephen Paulus will be performed with harp, flute and oboe accompaniment.

A concert of classical music will take place at Pinecrest High School on April 18. Faure’s “Requiem” and the Poulene “Gloria” will be performed.

Singers interested in joining the choral society may call 295-9085 or 949-3619 with questions or come to the registration/rehearsal on Sept. 2.
