Area Gymnasts Compete In Annual State Games

The Sandhills Academy of Gymnastics sent 11 competitors to the annual North Carolina State Games in Winston-Salem this summer.

Caleb Marion won a gold medal in the all around for boys ages 8-10. Aaron Mabry and Christopher Gould both won bronze medals in the all around in the same age division.

Korbin Helgesen won a bronze in the boys age division 5-7. In the beginner girls’ division ages 4-5, Kelsey Collins won a bronze in the all around. Lauren Walley also won a bronze in the beginner girls age 6. Kara Sheerin was awarded the silver medal in the beginner girls age 7.

Moncia Duphorn and Shannen Burns both competed in the intermediate girls’ division. Duphorn won a bronze in the all around and Burns was a silver medallist in the all around.

In the advanced girls age 6-8, Nicole Frandenburg won a silver medal in the all around and Laura Burns received the bronze.

This was the first state games for these gymnasts.
