Yellow Rockers
The Yellow Rockers Square Dance Club will be offering square dance lessons for beginners this September. Come join the fun and see what square dancing is all about at the two open houses scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 12, and Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Olde West End Gym in West End. You can sign up for the lessons at the open house. Lessons will begin on Thursday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m.

Newcomers
Ladies Monthly Bridge
The ladies monthly bridge group met Aug. 21 at the Pinehurst Members’ Club. Winners were: first, Mary Lumkes; second,- Barbara Ewing and third, Pat Fazio. The group will next meet on Sept. 18. All levels of bridge are welcome. For reservations please call Char Deiderich at 295-2138 before Sept. 13.
Foxfire Book Club
“The Bridge” by Doug Marlette was the book discussed by the Foxfire Book Club on Monday, Aug. 19. The reviewer was Cora Peckitt.
Carolyn Gilbert will lead the discussion of David McCullough’s best-selling “John Adams” at the September meeting. The books selected for future reviews are “Blackberry Wine” by Joanne Harris in October; “Two Old Women” by Velma Wallace, November; “Thinner” by Stephen King, December and “The Haj” by Leon Uris, January.
The Book Club meets at 3:30 p.m. in the Fireplace Room on the third Monday of each month. Betty Dresher and Helen Munro are co-chairmen. There are no dues. For information, call 673-6936.
Mothers of Moore
The next Mothers of Moore meeting is Thursday, Sept. 12 at Community Presbyterian Church, 125 Everette Road in Pinehurst. Babysitting will be available.
“We will be organizing playgroups (bring your calendar with you) and spending sometime getting to know members,” said a spokesman.
M.O.M. is a support group for mothers of young children who reside in the area.
It is open to women who are pregnant or have children age 5 or younger. M.O.M meets on the second Thursday of each month through May at Community Presbyterian Church. Annual dues are $15.

Garden Council
The Sandhills Council of Garden Clubs will hold its first meeting of the 2002-2003 season on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at Weymouth at 10 a.m. A representative member of each garden club should attend. New year books will be distributed to each member.
The list of officers for the 2002-2003 season is as follows: Camille Nagel, president; Mary Jane Knight, vice president; Jane McPhaul, secretary; and Florence Walker, treasurer.
The following is a listing of the committees: Charlotte Ganz, plant sale chairman; Nancy Rumery, by-laws; Dalia Binnie, director of centerpieces; Jane McPhaul, membership; Mary Jane Knight, special events.
Dates of the meetings are: Nov. 6, Jan. 8 (second Wednesday), March 5, April 22, May 7.
Upcoming social programs include: Nov. 7, Holiday Decorating by Aldena Frye of Custom Floral Design Studio, Aberdeen; and March 5 at SCC, Landscaping Designing by Design Company, Inc., Pinehurst.
Aberdeen Lions
Members of the Aberdeen Lions Club were joined by Ann Frank of Seven Lakes and Scott Goins, parks and recreations director of Aberdeen, at the Aberdeen Lake Recreation Building on Saturday, Aug. 10, to take on the job of painting the inside of the building as a local project of the club.
Cy Israel, special projects chairman, along with members Don Aune, Davis Clark, Elliott Frank, Pat Kelly, Fran and Keith Marks, Tony Robertson and Sam Swaringen spent the morning putting on a much needed coat of fresh paint.
More local projects by the club will be done during the coming year.
Computer Club
Of the Sandhills
The September meeting of the Computer Club of the Sandhills will meet on Monday, Sept. 9 in the Lower Level of the Whispering Pines Village Hall at 4 p.m.. The program will be a presentation entitled “Getting Better Scans with Your Scanner” by Art Reetz. Visitors are welcome.
Seven Lakes
Computer Club
The Seven Lakes Computer Club will meet on Tuesday, Sept 10 at 3:30 p.m. at the North Clubhouse Game Room. Jim Davis of Sandhills Community College will discuss CD Recorders and software.
PANHELLENIC LUNCHEON — Pine Needles will be the site of a Panhellenic luncheon on Sept. 30. Peggy Kirk Bell will speak on “Birdies, Bogies, and Funny Stories.” The luncheon is being planned by the Sandhills Alumnae of Kappa Kappa Gamma. Claire Bryant, Judy Leonard, and Helen Kingsolver are pictured planning for the event. The menu will include chicken salad and dessert and will cost $16. Checks may be made out to Judy Leonard and sent to her at 515 East Massachusetts Ave, Southern Pines 28287.
