“There was a cool breeze, so no one noticed (the dust),” said show manager Mel Wyatt. “When they go home and wash their faces, the towels will be black!”
Horsemen, struggling with water conservation, hard ground, brown pastures and a local hay shortage, are still training for the fall competition season in the hopes of a break in the weather.
Paired with her familiar partner Aspen Snow, Erin Boles won six classes, two of which were equitation. Juniors grabbed the lion’s share of the the ribbons in both rings, judged by Anne Moore and Jenny Zoeller of Winston-Salem.
