Weymouth Woods Has Several Nature Programs Coming Up

Weymouth Woods Sandhills Nature Preserve will host the following nature programs this month.

The Aug. 4 program, called “Sandhills Squirrels-Nature’s Nutcrackers” features a talk about the flying, fox and gray squirrels are all found in the Sandhills. The animals each have distinctly different lifestyles and the program will focus on the adaptions and life histories of these rodents.

Participants should meet in the auditorium at Weymouth Woods-SNP at 3 p.m. that Sunday for a short slide show and talk. Afterwards, participants may join the staff for a short half mile hike to look for fox squirrels.

A similar program will be held on Aug. 11 but the topic will be “Hummingbirds. This program also will begin at 3 p.m. at the auditorium in the Visitor Center at Weymouth Woods.

The Aug. 18 program is “Lizards of the Sandhills” which aims to teach partipants how body structure and camouflaging aid these creatures. The program will begin at 3 p.m. in the auditorium on Sunday, Aug. 18.

A Discovery Hike is planned for Aug. 25 at 3 p.m.
