Our Saviour Lutheran Sponsoring Health Fair

The Social Ministry Committee of Our Saviour Lutheran Church will sponsor a Family Health Fair at the church, 1517 Luther Way, Southern Pines, on Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event is a community service project and is free and open to the public.

In 1998 and 1999 the congregation sponsored a Senior Health Fair. Peggy Smith, chair of the Health Fair Committee, reported that this year’s fair will emphasis family health and will include health care professionals, other professionals and information for all age groups from infants through senior citizens. Single persons and couples of all ages are welcome in addition to families, Smith said.

This year’s fair will include many of the same types of health screenings that were available in the two previous health fairs, such as skin screenings, hearing tests and blood pressure check. A foot doctor, eye doctor, and chiropractor will be present. Health professionals will have stations to share information about women’s and men’s health issues.

Two pediatric nurses will provide information on children’s health needs. The Southern Pines Police Department will take photographs and fingerprint children. The Southern Pines Fire Department will tell the children about fire safety. State Highway Patrol personnel will be in the parking lot to check on child safety seat installation. A special $50 gift certificate from Kmart will be given to the family with the largest number of members attending the fair. A drawing will be held for other door prizes.
