Registration and a putting contest begin at 11 a.m., and a shotgun start is planned for noon. The format is a modified captain’s choice (Texas Scramble) in which all players hit drives, the best drive is selected and each player plays his or her own ball from there until the hole is completed.
The entry fee is $250 per player and includes the golf, cart, prizes and an Outback Steakhouse dinner following play. Nongolfing guests can attend the dinner for $35.
Proceeds from the event benefit 23 United Way partner agencies and programs in Moore County.
The Tee Off Classic is sponsored by CCNC, Outback Steakhouse, Harris Wholesale and Aberdeen Coca-Cola. For information or to enter, call 692-2413 or e-mail unitedway@pinehurst.net.

Senior Qualifying: Bob Klug and Ron Moore of Pinehurst, and Deane Hundley of Carthage shot 74s in sectional qualifying for the North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship to be held at the Country Club of Salisbury May 16 through 18.
Klug, Moore and Hundley were among five players who tied for the lead at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raleigh as the top 28 and ties advanced to the championship. Other qualifiers included Herb Conway and Hal Dugenske of Whispering Pines and Chuck Latham of Vass, who were at 76, and Spike Smith of Pinehurst with 77.
Senior Tour: Frank Boone of Raleigh shot a 1-over-par 72 at Eagle Ridge to win the Championship Flight of the Harris Teeter Senior Tour event.
William Hiner of Pinehurst shot 74 to win Flight A by a stroke over Emmett Wiggins of Hillsborough. George Shadwick of Pinehurst tied for third with 80.
“We just missed having eighty players at this event,” said Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck. “One of the things that was particularly positive about today was the number of new members that competed and were in contention in their respective flights. With more than seven months to go in the 2006 season, there is still plenty of golf to be played. We’ve been adding new players at every event, and it looks like that trend is going to continue throughout the summer months.”
Any amateur golfer over age 50 interested in playing in a Harris Teeter Senior event can contact Hallenbeck at (919) 499-9749, or e-mail him at behgolf@aol.com.
