I am a native of Moore County and a lifelong Republican who supported Richard Morgan for years until it became obvious that he had sacrificed principle for power.
I had high hopes that when he became co-speaker he would use the position to advance conservative values, but those hopes were soon dashed when he began voting with the Democrats on most issues.
When I contacted his office about various matters, I was told repeatedly that there had to be compromise — but all compromise seemed to be on Morgan’s part, never Black’s. Morgan’s betrayal of my confidence in him has been a bitter disappointment.
I find insulting the assertions, repeated ad nauseum by Morgan and his supporters, that his opponents are mindless creatures who must be told how to vote by outsiders, as must the rest of the 4,122 voters who voted for his opponent in the 2004 primary, compared to 4,376 who voted for him. That is a difference of only 254 votes.
Disturbing indeed are the attacks on anyone who dares disagree with Morgan, causing me to wonder how many people do not dare voice a difference of opinion for fear of retaliation. He has shown that he can be quite vindictive.
My support for Joe Boylan is based on personal experience and knowledge of both candidates, and I am very grateful for one who shares my values and will represent me in Raleigh.
