Sandhills Best Bets: Shaw House Barbecue Benefit

The Moore County Historical Association is sponsoring a ‘mouth-watering’ Southern barbecue on Friday, April 21, at the Shaw House in Southern Pines from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Tickets are $7 and include Talbert’s barbecue, beans, slaw and a beverage.

Plates can be boxed for super-fast takeout, or patrons can dine in.

From 5 to 7 p.m., music will be provided by Joe and Abby McDonald.

Free delivery is available on pre-sale orders of 10 or more plates.

Kiln Opening

The 13th annual Spring Kiln Opening will be held Friday, April 14, through Sunday, April 16, in the Seagrove area.

Potteries within a 15-mile radius have coordinated efforts to open their kilns for this special weekend, and will be open Friday and Saturday from 9 am. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Food will be available in both the Seagrove and Westmoore areas.

“Stop at any pottery for a map,” says a spokesman.

Wine Gala

A wine gala benefiting the Sandhills Food Bank will be held Wednesday, April 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fresh Market, 155 Beverly Lane, Southern Pines.

The gala will offer 10 wine-tasting stations, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and raffle.

Beer Tasting

The Junior League of Moore County will host a beer tasting benefit and raffle event on Saturday, April 22, from 2 to 6 p.m. at O’Donnell’s Pub in Southern Pines.

A concert will be played by Jacked Up Hot Rod, a local band.

Tickets are $25.

The Country Bookshop will host Michael Hebron, PGA American Master Professional and author of “The Art and Zen of Learning Golf,” who will discuss his work-in-progress, “I’d Like to Learn, Please Stop Teaching Me,” Thursday, April 20, at 4 p.m.

The Keno Jets and Brothers Working Together Investment Group are sponsoring a dance, featuring DJ Skull, Saturday, April 15, from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Southern Pines Elks Lodge. Admission is $15.
