“We hit the ball well,” said Mustang coach Bobby Collins, “and we played good defense.”
North Moore started the scoring in the top of the second inning. Kirk Williams doubled, Lucas Garner followed with a single, and Chris Wolfe was safe on a fielder’s choice, scoring Williams. Josh Sheffield was safe on an error, and Jerome Maness followed with a double, scoring Wolfe.
Sheffield and Maness both scored on a single by Clay Hutchins, and Mustangs led after two complete innings by a score of 4-0.
Williams led off for the Mustangs with a single in the top of the third inning. Josh Frye was hit by a pitch and awarded first base. Wolfe singled, scoring Williams. Sheffield walked and stole second. Maness then singled to drive in both Frye and Sheffield. Dalewyn Spinks followed with a double, scoring Wolfe and Maness. Steven Davis then walked, and Williams doubled, scoring both Spinks and Davis. The score at the end of the third inning was North Moore 11, Thomasville 0.
Wolfe hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning, and the Mustangs led, 12-0 at the end of the fourth.
Davis led off with a single in the top of the fifth inning, and Williams followed with another single. Frey then singled to score both Davis and Williams. Garner walked, and Jody Maness also walked, loading the bases. A double by Jerome Maness scored Frey and Garner, and a single by Clay Hutchins drove in two more runs for the Mustangs. That was the end of the scoring. The game was ended after five complete innings as the 10-run mercy rule was applied.
Lucas Garner went the distance on the mound for North Moore, allowing two hits, walking two batters and striking out 12. North Moore’s record improved to 7-5 with the win, and it is 4-2 in the Yadkin Valley Conference standings. The Mustangs are scheduled to play at South Davidson on Tuesday.
