Organizations Promote Alcohol Awareness Month

April marks the date of the 19th Annual Alcohol Awareness Month.

It is the time for parents, schools, communities, organizations and residents to take a stand against the problem that is costing the United States $185 billion dollars per year — alcohol abuse and alcoholism — according to a news release from a nonprofit group called Narconon Arrowhead.

Alcohol is frequently a factor in the three leading causes of death (motor vehicle crashes, homicides, and suicides) for 15- to 24- year-olds, according to statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That is why there are several organizations working together to make a better future for tomorrow’s youth.

This year’s theme is “Together, We Can Stop Underage Drinking.”

“Working together from all different perspectives on this problem is the only way to head off and to heal the devastating consequences of underage drinking,” said Stacia Murphy, president of the National Council on Alco-holism and Drug Dependency.

There is an organization that is stepping up to the plate to show the nation that drug and alcohol addiction can be overcome, which is the goal of Narconon Arrowhead, according to Executive Director Gary Smith.

“We have the technology to release everyone from the burdens that come along with an addiction and we want to build a solid foundation for educating our youth on the dangers of drug and alcohol use, which is why we are participating in National Alcohol Awareness Month,” Smith said.

Narconon Arrowhead is one of the nation’s largest and most successful education and rehabilitation programs and is based on methods developed by American author and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, the news release said. It is a drug-free program with a success rate many times greater than the national average.
