U.S. Open Hiring Set to Begin

BY MATTHEW MORIARTY: Staff Writer

A firm in charge of hiring help for the U.S. Open is holding three open houses this week during which people can apply for a variety of jobs.

The firm, called NESCO Resource and based out of Cleveland, Ohio, has been providing hospitality staff for major golf events for years, according to spokesperson Paulina Gallelli.

The open house recruiting is being held at the Holiday Inn on U.S. 1 in Southern Pines. Monday, the open house goes from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, a marathon session goes from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Then, recruitment wraps up Wednesday with a session that goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

NESCO plans to hire as many as 600 people for jobs such as cook, hot and cold kitchen prep, bartender, wait staff, butler, stock, table busser, food runner and cashier.

NESCO was founded in the 1950s as an engineering and design firm. In the 1960s, it began to provide technical staffing services, which eventually grew to include “a broad range of technical, clerical and light industrial, consulting and professional staffing support services,” according to the company Web site.

In 2002, Forbes Magazine ranked NESCO in the top half of the 500 largest U.S. privately owned companies.
