Search Process a Farce

After reading the papers for the last several days, I am convinced the superintendent search is the biggest farce in this county in many years.

If half of what one reads is true, the school board and the so-called search committee could care less about what is good for the students in the school system, only what the Chamber of Commerce wants. The majority of the school board members and some of the search committee members are also members of the chamber.

An article in the paper said Tim Lea admonished Greg No. 1 for grandstanding and did not say one word about Greg No. 2 for doing the same thing. One would think the chairperson could be evenhanded.

Larry Upchurch may or may not be the best person to head the county school system, but it appears many people in the system think he is. The board members would do well to remember that. Otherwise it just may be the last hurrah for a bunch of lame ducks. This will probably happen regardless of whom they hire.

If Larry could stand the stench, maybe he should join the Chamber, although I doubt he has enough excess baggage to qualify. If Larry is not qualified after 32 years to lead this system, he should have been fired long ago.
