In a game limited to five innings by the 10-run mercy rule, the Vikings’ Shelly Cummings pitched a no-hitter. The Tiger run was scored in the first inning via walks combined with a passed ball.
The split of the two games leaves the Vikings firmly entrenched in third place behind Southwest Randolph and Southeast Guilford in the Tri-County Conference with a 6-3 league and 11-4 overall record.
A 10-run fifth inning busted open the game against Ragsdale. Leading the Vikings offensively were Amy Calcutt with three hits, Lisa Jackson with a home run, Melody Moore with a pair of doubles and Jessica Irby with a single and a double.
Earlier in the week, the Vikings had a chance to move into second place with a win over Southeast Guilford. The Falcons scored three times in the top of the first inning and were never headed. Christy Goodwin picked up the win for the Falcons and went two for three with the bat. Carolyn Moore pitched for the Vikings and went two for four. Jackson was also two for four with a pair of doubles.
The Vikings played Northwood in a non-conference game on Thursday. Next Tuesday they entertain Eastern Randolph in a 5 p.m. conference contest.
