POLICE BRIEFS: Sheriff’s Deputies Charge Man With Home Invasion

Moore County sheriff’s deputies arrested the last of seven men that they believe invaded a home in Eagle Springs.

Cathy Herrera, of Eagle Branch Road in Eagle Springs, called deputies to her home Dec. 18 to report an invasion. She told deputies that seven men dressed in black forced their way into the house and severely injured her husband, Geraldo Herrera.

Deputies arrested Shannon Jerome Capel, 24, of Rockingham, on April 14. Deputies have also charged Caleb Junior Lucky of Hoffman, Cliffton Tyrone Ellerbe of Hoffman, Walter James Spencer of Ellerbe, Larry Gee Crawford of Southern Pines, Dyshunka Russell of Southern Pines and Stanley Christopher Smith of Rockingham in connection with the case.

Capel is charged first-degree burglary, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, kidnapping, three counts of second degree kidnapping, breaking and entering a motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny.

He was jailed with a $100,000 secured bond. His first court hearing is set for Thursday.

Car Jacking: A Southern Pines woman was the victim of a car jacking on Pinehurst Avenue in Aberdeen.

Elizabeth Calcutt was forced to give up her 1998 Ford Mustang. A short time later, sheriff’s deputies arrested Reuben Lee Hardy, 43, of Cameron. Deputies said he was in possession of the Mustang.

Deputies charged Hardy with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a dangerous weapon. He was jailed with a $15,000 secured bond. His first court hearing is set for April 29.

Breaking and Entering: Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Southern Pines teen April 7 and charged him with stealing the title to a Honda CRX.

Deputies charged Jonathon Michael Futrell, 17, with breaking and entering, felony larceny and possession of stolen goods.

The title belongs to Jeff Futrell, deputies said.

Jonathon Michael Futrell was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond. His first court hearing is scheduled for April 29.

Embezzlement: Southern Pines police arrested a Pinehurst man on charges that he embezzled more than $700 worth of food from his employer, Longleaf Country Club.

Officers charged Joseph Chace Graham, 37, with embezzlement April 13. He was released with a $3,000 bond. His first court hearing is April 29.

Felony Larceny: Sheriff’s deputies arrested two Vass residents April 13 and charged them with larceny.

Sara Tally Reeves, 26, and Johnathan Phillip Greene, 28, are accused of stealing a television, computer, sofa and loveseat March 26. The combined value of the items is $5,614.

Reeves and Greene signed a written promise to appear in court on April 29.
