New Century Band Participates in District Meet

Six New Century Middle School students and their band director, Rob Hill, recently participated in All District Band, which was held in Brunswick County this year.

Qualifying students were: Kyle McLean, mallet percussion; Lindsay Everett, clarinet; Dalton Hadlock and Elisa Homesley, trombone; Joey Simpson, clarinet; and Clark Lynn, tuba. Participation in the event is a tremendous honor, and students found preparation for the event to be both challenging and rewarding.

In two days band students are expected to learn music for a final performance, which is presented to the public.

During the two days, experts serve as guest clinicians, teaching students how to perform together with specialized rehearsal skills and techniques.

To make All District Band, the students went through a rigorous audition process that consisted of a prepared solo, memorized scales, and sight-reading.

Hundreds of students from the Southeastern District of North Carolina auditioned.
