Diane Cunningham, instructor of Early Child Care Education, arranged this session for her students so that they could understand what is needed to be a licensed day care provider.
The speakers were Tammie Martin and Barbara Ross from Child Care Connections of the Sandhills.
The speakers went over everything that a family child care provider needs from the application process to become a childcare provider down to a check list that is needed to ensure the safety of the home used for day care.
Students learned that a childcare provider is similar to a regular a day care, and in many ways it is. The only exception is that the owner or provider has limitations based on the house size and age of the children.
The students were able to ask questions at any given time.
A few questions were also asked to the students to see how much they know. For example Ross and Martin asked the following question: why do you have to check your water if you are a provider? The reason is because of the chance of bacterial infection.
Students were able to learn what they need to know to pursue a career as a childcare home provider.
Soon the students are going to be traveling to Vass-Lakeview Elementary School to observe the classes and how the students interact in kindergarten and pre-school. Later the Early Childcare students will go out and work at day cares in Vass, Cameron, Southern Pines and Carthage.
