This session is one of several where the students are learning about landscape design under the direction of Maurine Miller, Vass-Lakeview’s art teacher.
After studying portraiture, the students began learning about the components of a landscape. They learned to draw each component prior to organizing them into a complete work. Each student then had to identify one item in his or her own personal landscape. They organized their space by using a horizontal line.
The art works were completed when a coating of an epson salt mixture was added. Ironically, their resulting winter landscapes resemble the recent wintry- mix weather. This further enhanced the learning experience with every-day life.
During the beginning stages of planning their work, students referred to various examples of landscapes provided by Miller for ideas to create their own landscape design.
The hallways of the school are now filled with the colorful and varied designs.
