Fashions from Talbots at Pinecrest Plaza included the classic “little black dress,” brightly colored shirts with cropped pants or capris and attractive suits.
Colors ranged from pastel yellows to hot pink and the looks from casual to semi-formal, including dressy pantsuits that could go from office to party. with a change of accessories.
Models included Do Shaver, Carole Angle, Jean Burbage, Lee Evans, Barbara Farr, Dot Greenwood, Lois Hillier, Marcelle Pierre-Louis, Joanne Robinson and Dodie Strauss.
The National in Pinehurst was the setting for a luncheon consisting of chicken parmesan on angel hair pasta, rolls and strawberry cake.
Door prizes were donated by the Country Book Shop, Mary Contrary, Charmelle Jewelry, Phoenix Fashions, Seven Lakes Country Club, Carolyn’s, Midland Country Club, Ken Hodge, Southern Grace, Austin’s Business Supply, Chick-Fil-A, Fresh Market, the Ice Cream Parlor, Incredible Edibles, Potpourri, and the Wildflower Collection.
Pud Kent was the fashion show chairman.
The League’s Board of Directors includes Lee Mahan Evans, Mary Price, Barbara Farr, Ann Torok, Kay Hodge, Nancy Weisser and Virginia Leiss.
Funds raised with the fashion show go to support the League’s programs. The League of Women Voters provides voter services for the community, candidates’ forums for interested communities, monthly program luncheon meetings, and a Guide to Elected Officials in cooperation with the Board of Elections.
In addition the League engages in studies of community needs, encourages an active observer corps that monitors government meetings, and is presenting a Civics 101 course — an adventure in observing and learning about courts and government.
