Parsons Lake Home Featured on Tour

The Southern Pines Garden Club is sponsoring its 54th annual home and garden tour on Wednesday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Six homes and gardens will be open on this year’s tour, among them that of Mrs. David Jones.

Down a quiet lane overlooking Parson’s Lake, this snug brick and wood home keeps to itself welcoming blue herons, migrating birds, and the occasional deer. The talented owner designed and created her own unique environment.

Carefully selecting local craftspeople, each room reflects a standard of excellence celebrating order and beauty. Colors selected are strong and unique. Hardwood floors and finely worked cabinetry are both useful and beautiful. Highly pitched ceilings and tall windows bring light into every corner.

Dramatic, black and white prevail in the kitchen while the eating space is a place to visit at all times.

Across the length of the back, a wide deck overlooks the pond, gardens, and ever curious wildlife, providing separate areas for entertaining or a quiet read.

A fireplace in the master bedroom is an inviting and relaxing get-away from the world.

Other homes on this year’s tour include those of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. John Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Conley Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Casey and Mrs. David Jones.

The proceeds from the tour benefit several beautification projects as well as a scholarship. This year’s co-chairmen are Holly Floyd and Jody Mincey.

In conjunction with the tour, the Arts Council of Moore County is offering a special picnic lunch to those attending the tour. The lunch costs $8 in advance ($10 on day of tour, while supplies last) and each lunch contains a choice of a wrapped sandwich by Roly Poly (ham, turkey or veggie), a bag of chips, a cookie and a bottle of water.

Proceeds from the sale of the picnic lunch will benefit the programs and services of the Arts Council of Moore County.

To reserve a lunch, please call 910-692-4356 by 5 p.m. on April 4. MasterCard and Visa will be accepted. On the day of the tour (April 9), the lunches may be conveniently picked up at Campbell House (482 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check the ACMC Web site for additional information: www.artscouncil-moore.org.

Advance tickets may be purchased for $15 at the Campbell House and the Country Bookshop in Southern Pines or the Gentleman’s Corner in Pinehurst as well as on the Web site, www.southernpinesgardenclub.org.

Tickets will be available at any of the homes for $20 on the day of the tour.
