Life Scan uses state-of-the-art digital ultrasound equipment to visualize fatty plaque accumulation in the arteries that can lead to stroke, aneurysm and lower leg disease.
A carotid artery screening will be offered. This screening is designed to detect fatty plaque accumulation in the carotid arteries, which can lead to stroke. The National Stroke Association says that 75 to 80 percent of all strokes are caused by blocked carotid arteries.
Life Scan offers an abdominal aortic aneurysm screening to detect the presence of an aneurysm in the abdominal aorta. There is a 95 percent death rate for an undetected abdominal aortic aneurysm.
Life Scan also offers a peripheral arterial disease screening to detect lower leg disease, which is caused by cholesterol accumulation in the lower legs. Peripheral arterial disease is a leading indicator for heart disease.
An osteoporosis screening uses ultrasound to measure the bone density of the heel. Osteoporosis is a preventable disease process that may lead to painful bone fractures, skeletal deformities and general loss of mobility.
Life Scan will offer EKGs (Chart the electrical activity of the heart); pulmonary function tests (measure how well the patient’s lungs are working); and echocardiograms (ultrasound to determine the function of the heart).
Life Scan screenings are performed by registered ultrasound technicians and are painless, accurate and noninvasive. All results are reviewed by local licensed physicians and are confidentially mailed to the client’s residence. Life Scan’s goal is to make people aware of a potential problem by offering affordable preventative screenings.
Vascular screenings such as these cost $400 to $1,800 each in a hospital setting. Life Scan offers these screenings for only $39 each or $99 for any three screenings; $135 for four screenings; $159 for any five screenings; or $179 for all six screenings. Echocardiograms are an additional $129 each.
