Par and Yardage

The Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club is set up at 6,256 yards and par is 35-35 — 70. Fairways are Bermuda grass and the greens are Bentgrass.

Pine Needles was designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1927.

Tickets

Tickets are available by calling 1-800-295-2094 or visit the official website: www.2001uswomensopen.com. Daily tickets are also available at the main gate. Parking fees are included in the ticket fees.

Schedule

Practice rounds will be held throught Wednesday. Champion-ship play will be conducted Thursday-Sunday with 18 holes of stroke play each day. A tie after 72 holes will result in a hole playoff on Monday, June 4.

Format

The championship is conducted at stroke play over 72 holes. There are 150 players in the championship field. After 36 holes, the field is cut to the 60 lowest scorers and anyone tying for 60th place and anyone with in 10 strokes of the leader

Purse

The total purse for the championship is $2.9 million. The champion, if a professional, will receive $520,000, which is $205,000 more than just two years ago and $20,000 more than last year’s top prize. It is the highest winner’s check and total purse in women’s golf.

Television Times

May 31 ESPN 3-7 p.m

June 1 ESPN 3-7 p.m

June 2 NBC 3-6 p.m

June 3 NBC 2-5 p.m.

If needed, an 18-hole playoff would be conducted Monday, June 4 starting at noon. ESPN would broadcast the playoff in its entirety.

Who Can Enter?

The Women’s Open is open to any professional or amateur golfers who were females at birth. Amateur golfers must maintain a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 4.

How to Reach

Public Parking: Public parking will be available from Camp Easter Road in Southern Pines.

Shuttle buses will take fans from both parking areas to the golf course during the tournament.

Today, soccer phenomenon and the Women’s United Soccer Association’s Washington Freedom team member Mia Hamm, National Team Captain and Carolina Courage team member Carla Overbeck and women’s soccer pioneer Wendy Gebauer will play with former U.S. Women’s Open champions Juli Inkster and Betsy King as well as Laura Davies on Pine Needles’ four practice holes.

Other Information

  • Amateurs completing 72 holes are eligible to receive a gold pin to the lowest scorer, a silver pin to the second lowest scorer and a bronze pin to the third lowest scorer.
  • The USGA says photographs can be taken early in the week but are prohibited after the tournament begins on Thursday. Cameras and video recorders will not be allowed on the course during the championship play.
